On October 4th, 2024, the Artfield Institute of Design was transformed into a hub of color, creativity, and celebration as the inaugural Color Festival took center stage. Aptly themed “Vibrant Beginnings,” the event marked a new tradition of community, learning, and artistic expression at the institute. With over 300 attendees, including students, alumni, and friends, the day was filled with a rich mix of activities that showcased the power of color in design and beyond.

The festival’s purpose was clear: to highlight the significance of color in creative fields while fostering an environment where students and participants could relax, learn, and engage. From painting competitions to color theory talks, the event offered something for everyone. Panel discussions explored the profound connection between color and mental health, while the Throwing of Color Ceremony became a symbol of unity and artistic freedom, as participants showered each other with vibrant powders.

Highlights of the 2024 Color Festival

One of the standout moments of the day was the Painting Competition, where students demonstrated exceptional creativity and talent. Tusiime Rogers, a Visual Communication student from the May 2024 intake, emerged as the winner. Reflecting on his victory, Tusiime said, “This award not only validates my passion for art but also inspires me to continue pushing the boundaries of creativity.”

Another memorable activity was the Eating Competition, a crowd favorite that brought a lively energy to the day. Ssensizi Sharif, a Motion Graphics and Broadcasting Design student, described the event as a rewarding experience: “What stood out to me was that I was able to help bring the festival to life. This is something that Artfield should keep doing.”

The festival’s success was further bolstered by the support of corporate partners such as Next Media, Jesa, Pepsi, and Plascon, whose contributions added credibility and goodwill to the event. Despite an initially slow start, the festival gained momentum as more participants arrived, culminating in a day filled with vibrant energy and unforgettable moments.

As the curtain closed on the 2024 Color Festival, it became evident that this event was destined to become an annual tradition. The feedback from participants highlighted the importance of such gatherings in fostering community, encouraging creativity, and providing a platform for artistic expression.
