At Artfield Institute of Design, we know that creativity flourishes in a supportive community. That’s why we created Kiboozi O’clock a dedicated time when students step away from the bustle of lecture rooms and studios to connect with one another, their lecturers, and even industry professionals.
The word “Kiboozi” comes from Ugandan street slang (Luganda) and simply means “chit-chat, gist, or casual conversation.” And that’s exactly what this space offers: a chance to share stories, bond, and enjoy lighthearted moments together. But Kiboozi O’clock is more than just a break. It’s a vibrant hub of storytelling, laughter, and interaction through fun activities such as Otyo, card games, table tennis, and computer games. It’s where creative minds can recharge while building friendships and networks that go beyond the classroom.

Beyond the fun, Kiboozi O’clock also creates a safe platform for important conversations. Here, students openly discuss issues that often affect creative mental health, drug abuse and addiction, relationships, financial independence, and creative blocks. To give these discussions depth and value, Artfield frequently invites professionals and experts to share knowledge and practical guidance, offering both support and early intervention. Importantly, Kiboozi O’clock is not limited to Artfield students alone. It is open to other creative outside the Institute, making the sessions even richer through the cross-pollination of ideas and experiences.

Over time, Kiboozi O’clock has proven to be a transformative initiative. It has helped students overcome personal struggles, strengthened resilience, and nurtured a new generation of creative ones who are not weighed down by the classic challenges of the industry.
At Artfield, we believe that nurturing creativity means caring for the person behind the work. Kiboozi O’clock is our way of ensuring that no creative walks the journey alone.
