We often wonder where creatives get their juices from or how they manage to come up with creative ideas and styles daily. What we often miss is how design educators ideate new ways to ensure their students are constantly motivated.
One such way is the inaugural Color Festival to be held by the Artfield Institute of Design. Inspired by Albert Einstein’s quote, “Creativity is contagious, pass it on,” this vibrant celebration seeks to unite artists, designers and students in a shared explosion of artistic expression.
The festival is a celebration of colour, creativity and collaboration. On October 4th, 2024 from 8 am to 9 pm , the Artfield campus will transform into one big artsy mural where participants can not only immerse themselves in the beauty of colour but also spread creative energy.
Under the theme “Vibrant Beginnings,” the festival will bring together students, alumni and young creatives for a fun-filled day of art, music, games and interactive panel discussions. The event aims to highlight the importance of colour in design and foster community among participants while providing opportunities for learning, relaxation, and entertainment.
“The festival’s sole purpose is to bring creatives under one space to network and learn about colour theories,” says Denis Waligo, the Dean of Students and Career Advisor at Artfield, adding, “We’ve noticed that many people struggle with how to mix colours, and this festival will serve that purpose.”
Throughout the day, attendees will have the chance to explore the power of colour through various forms of artistic expression—whether through painting, music, dance, or even the “Throwing of Colour” ceremony. Participants will also have the opportunity to engage in friendly competitions, interactive games, and a colour run that will take them from Artfield to Naguru Hill and back.
The festival is filled with highlights such as a Paint and Chill session, Interactive Games and insightful Panel Discussions on colour theory and mental health. Additionally, attendees will enjoy energetic Live Music Performances from Hozambe and Kapeke.
Among the several panel sessions will be one dedicated to discussing mental health and the creative industry. In a bid to highlight this important topic, Waligo emphasizes, “Artfield seeks to encourage open conversations about mental health, ensuring that creatives know they can reach out for support and who to reach out to.”
With corporate partners like Next Media, Plascon, Jesa and Pepsi on board, the Colour Festival promises to be both enriching and entertaining.
The Colour Festival is more than just a celebration—it’s a window into the world of design education at Artfield. If art and colour are things that tickle your fancy, you can’t miss the Colour Festival.
